Lethal Injection
April 24, 2007 at 8:41 am | In Uncategorized | 7 CommentsI came across an article that was about lethal injection. The article said that lethal injections may cause suffocation. Now I do not believe in the death sentence and thi makes me feel even moer against it. “Some prisoners executed by lethal injection in the United States may die of suffocation while they are still conscious and in pain, University of Miami researchers said yesterday in a study that concluded the drugs do not work as intended…They said the potassium chloride, which causes an intense burning sensation, did not reliably hasten death, finding prisoners given it died no faster than those who got only the other two drugs. They concluded that the pancuronium was the only reliably fatal part of the cocktail, meaning the executed may actually have died of suffocation as it paralyzed their lungs.”
This really upsets me, how did they not figure this out before. Does anyone know if they have to do autopsies on the prisoners after they are killed? If they do then they must hae known for years that this is the real cause of death not just leathal inejction. I feel that when someone is sentenced to death the courts say it is a painless injection and they die peacfully, well this obviously is not the case and something needs to change. We have no right to make these people suffer, it’s not our duty. Yes put them in jail but you cant make them suffer.

Who cares if they are suffocating? Either way they are being put to death. I feel like these pepole must have commited a horendous crime if they are being put to death, they are lucky that the death they have to endure isn’t in a more gruesome fashion. I never think that the death penalty should be an easy rest. These are more than likely KILLERS!!! These people deserve no easy out or consideration. I dont think that any action should be made to fix this problem of suffocation during lethal injection.

This is really startling. I never knew how this actually worked. From everything I’ve heard and read about lethal injection I was never led to believe that the prisoner suffered. I always thought it was quick and nearly painless. I also am against the death penalty. Not only do I think it’s wrong, but I think Kelly was right on when she said that it’s an easy out for these killers. I think that prisoners should have to suffer, death is too quick and not nearly enough punishment to fit the crime.

I agree that there should not be a death penalty, but teh fact that there could be suffocation with the lethal injection is sickening. I have always thought that the lethal injection was a painless process, but now they are finding that it could be torturous and that is pretty disturbing. I think that prison is enough for an individual to suffer and be punished for their actions.

wow. This is really upsetting. I had no idea how the lethal injection worked. The death penalty is senseless and cruel. The cost is not justifiable, the methods are not justifiable and studies have proven it is very ineffective in deterring crime. So why do it.

I personally think life in prison is worse that lethal injection (any form of death sentance). To live in prison and deal with being confined, abused, and even raped by other jail members makes lethal injection look like getting off easy. That person would be spending their life in prison anyways. I beleive jail to be worse in that it gives that person a lifetime to think about their crime and repent for their mistakes.
